Claude in Europe: what businesses need to know

A procurement lead who searches for Claude in Europe wants three answers before buying a licence: whether it works here, how well it writes the team's language and who sends the invoice. The short version is yes, in all 27 EU member states, with prices in US dollars, data stored in the US and a VAT step to get right.1
Anthropic lists six offices in Europe and names European customers from BMW to Pirelli, so the question has moved from whether Claude is serious here to how a team buys it well.23 Readers new to Claude as a work tool can start with what Claude does for a business and come back for the European details.
Claude in Europe works in every EU country
Anthropic's supported regions policy lists all 27 EU member states, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway from the wider European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.1 The policy covers the Claude apps, Claude Code, the API and cloud platforms, which means every plan from Free to Enterprise works in Lisbon as it does in San Francisco. Customers in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK sign with Anthropic Ireland, Limited, under Irish law.4
Anthropic's European offices sit in London, Dublin and Zurich, and since the announcement of 7 November 2025 also in Paris and Munich.2 Milan was announced as the sixth European office on 27 May 2026.3
European customers that Anthropic names in its own announcements include L'Oréal, BMW, SAP, Sanofi, N26, Doctolib and Qonto, and in Italy Generali, Enel and Pirelli.23 The clearest case is the Italian payments company Satispay, which compressed an 18-month roadmap into seven months with Claude.3 Those figures come from Anthropic's announcement rather than an independent audit, so your own pilot still has to show the number.
Claude in Europe: what still differs from the US
Anthropic offers no EU-only processing of its own, because the API setting inference_geo, meaning where the model reads a prompt and writes the answer, accepts only global or us.5 Billing is the second difference, since a Team plan bought direct is charged in US dollars to a card and invoicing on payment terms sits on Enterprise only.6
How good is Claude in European languages?
Anthropic publishes per-language scores for its current models on Global-MMLU, meaning a multiple-choice knowledge test in 42 languages, and reports each score as a share of the same model's English result.7 The table shows the five European languages in that list, checked on 4 November 2026.
| Language | Claude Opus 5.5 | Claude Haiku 5.5 |
|---|---|---|
| English | 100% | 100% |
| French | 99.3% | 97.7% |
| Spanish | 99.3% | 98.1% |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | 99.2% | 98.1% |
| Italian | 99.2% | 97.7% |
| German | 99.1% | 97.4% |
Anthropic adds that the table compares languages within one model and that gaps under about one percentage point are measurement noise, so German and French on Opus 5.5 sit level with English.7 Dutch, Polish, Swedish and the other EU languages are missing from the table, and Anthropic only says Claude is capable in many languages beyond those it benchmarked.7
We write our own Swedish customer emails with Claude, and everyday business text in a language outside the table holds up well in that daily use. Specialist legal or medical wording is where we see slips, so someone who knows the subject still reads every contract and patient text before it goes out.
Claude replies in the language you write in, and the app interface can be switched to French, German, Italian, Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese under your profile icon, then Language.8 For a fixed output language Anthropic advises stating it outright, for example with the project instruction "Always answer in Dutch, as a native speaker would write it."7
GDPR and data handling for European companies
Anthropic acts as your processor on the Team and Enterprise plans under its Data Processing Addendum, meaning the contract that Article 28 GDPR asks for.9 Inputs and outputs on those plans are not used to train Anthropic's models by default.10
The addendum carries the Standard Contractual Clauses, meaning the EU's model contract for transfers under Articles 44 to 49, because Anthropic says data from its commercial products is stored in the US.911 Your own side, from the legal basis under Article 6 to an impact assessment under Article 35, is in our GDPR guide for Claude. A security team that asks for audit logs and custom retention controls is asking for Claude Enterprise, which our Claude Enterprise security guide covers.
The official Data Privacy Framework list, meaning the US register of companies self-certified for EU transfers, showed no Anthropic entry on 4 November 2026, so a transfer cannot rest on that framework.12 Teams that need processing inside the EU use EU cross-region inference on Amazon Bedrock or the EU multi-region endpoint on Google Cloud, both billed per token and set up by a developer.1314 Which models qualify on each route is in our guide to Claude EU data residency.
What does Claude cost in Europe, and who invoices it?
Anthropic lists every plan in US dollars and excludes tax, so a European price is a conversion that moves with the exchange rate.6 The euro figures below use the European Central Bank rate of 25 September 2026, 1.1403 dollars to the euro.
| Plan | List price | About in euros |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | $20 a month, or $17 billed annually | €18, or €15 |
| Team, Standard seat | $25 monthly, or $20 billed annually | €22, or €18 |
| Team, Premium seat | $125 monthly, or $100 billed annually | €110, or €88 |
Tax follows the billing address on the account, and a VAT-registered business adds its VAT ID under Settings, then Billing, with the Update button next to the payment method.15 Add it before the first invoice runs, because the change applies to future billing cycles only and completed invoices cannot be updated afterwards.15 Under the reverse charge, meaning the buyer accounts for the VAT instead of the seller, a business buying from another EU country declares it in its own return.16 Every step from choosing seats to the first correct invoice is in how to buy Claude licences for a business.
Through satori-claude we buy the licences and send one invoice in euros, at €22 per Standard user or €110 per Premium user a month, excluding VAT. On top come €14 per user a month for licence admin, support and a quarterly usage report, and €490 once for setup. EU business customers with a valid VAT number are invoiced without Swedish VAT under the reverse charge. Customers in Sweden pay Swedish VAT.
A worked example with our own arithmetic: ten people on Standard licences pay €490 once and then €360 a month, which makes €4,810 in the first year including setup. Bought direct on monthly billing, the same ten seats list at $250 a month, about €219, so the difference is the €14 fee per person and the setup. The licence still costs Anthropic's monthly list price, converted at the same rate.
Claude vs ChatGPT for a European team
Side by side, Claude and ChatGPT line up as follows on the points that matter to an EU team, checked on 4 November 2026.
| Claude | ChatGPT | |
|---|---|---|
| App interface languages | English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese8 | 22 of the 24 official EU languages, all except Irish and Maltese17 |
| Content stored in the EU | No, commercial data is stored in the US11 | Business: Europe at checkout, rolling out, US copy for abuse monitoring.18 Enterprise and Edu: yes, for new workspaces19 |
| Inference inside the EU | EU cross-region inference on Amazon Bedrock or the EU multi-region endpoint on Google Cloud1314 | Enterprise and Edu with EU data residency, not Business1819 |
| Team seat, monthly or annual billing | Standard $25 or $20, Premium $125 or $1006 | Standard $25 or $20, Premium $125 or $10020 |
| Team plan seats | 2 to 1506 | 2 to 20020 |
| Invoice with payment terms | Enterprise only6 | Enterprise or Edu only21 |
| One euro invoice through satori. | satori-claude, €14 per user a month | satori-chatgpt, €14 per user a month |
ChatGPT is ahead on two rows, because its interface covers 22 EU languages against Claude's six European options and a Business workspace can keep its stored content in Europe. That storage option still keeps a copy of every prompt and response in the US for a limited time, and it does not cover inference.18
Claude's case rests on the work, from long contracts to code, and we set out where each tool wins in our Claude and ChatGPT comparison. Prices sit level at $20 a seat on annual billing, so price will not decide it. The same questions answered from OpenAI's side, from supported countries to who sends the invoice, are in our guide to ChatGPT in Europe.
Is there a Claude partner in Europe?
Anthropic runs a partner programme, the Claude Partner Network, which it launched on 12 March 2026 with an initial $100 million for partner training, technical support and joint market development.22 Since June 2026 a public directory in its Partner Hub shows each listed firm's tier, from Select, which needs at least 10 certified people and 2 customers in production, up to Global Premier.23
satori. is an independent firm of Claude consultants that sets up Claude for European teams, with every price published in euros before the first call. Judge us on the prices and what a rollout contains:
- Licence admin in euros: we buy the seats, add and remove users and send one invoice a month, so the card charges on expense reports stop.
- GDPR paperwork: we help with the Data Processing Addendum, the impact assessment under Article 35 and an AI policy, because boring documents are the ones that never get written.
- Onboarding and training: satori-launch gets a whole team started for €560 per user from 8 users, because access alone rarely changes how a team works.
- A report every quarter: you see who uses Claude and for what, with three concrete next steps, although your own admin still decides who keeps a seat.
To see the numbers for your own headcount, book a free 30-minute call and bring last month's count of active Claude users.
Claude in Europe: the short version
Claude works in all 27 EU countries on every plan, writes French, German, Italian and Spanish within about one percentage point of its English on Opus 5.5, and contracts through Anthropic Ireland. The gaps sit in data processing, which Anthropic does not keep inside the EU, and in dollar billing, which a euro reseller removes. Pick Claude Team direct when a company card is enough, and satori-claude at €36 per Standard user a month plus €490 once when finance wants one euro invoice.
Take one email you must send this week in another EU language, give Claude three bullet points without personal data and add the prompt "Write this as a native speaker would, in a formal register." Compare it with your own version, and after fifteen minutes you have two drafts side by side.

Frequently asked questions
Claude is available in every EU country, because Anthropic's supported regions policy lists all 27 member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The policy covers the Claude apps, Claude Code and the API, and customers in the European Economic Area sign their contract with Anthropic Ireland, Limited.
Anthropic lists six European offices, in London, Dublin, Zurich, Paris, Munich and Milan, the last of them announced on 27 May 2026. European customers it names include L'Oréal, BMW, SAP, Sanofi, N26, Doctolib, Generali, Enel and Pirelli, and its contracting entity for the region is Anthropic Ireland, Limited.
Claude Opus 5.5 scores 99.1 per cent of its English result in German and 99.3 per cent in French and Spanish on Global-MMLU, the multilingual test Anthropic publishes in its documentation. Dutch, Polish and Swedish are not in that table, so test them on your own documents before a rollout.
Not through Anthropic itself, since Anthropic states that data from its commercial products is stored in the US and its API runs inference only globally or in the US. A company that needs processing inside the EU uses EU cross-region inference on Amazon Bedrock or the EU multi-region endpoint on Google Cloud, which suits API work rather than the chat app.
Anthropic charges the Team plan in US dollars to a card, so the euro amount moves with the exchange rate. Through satori-claude we buy the licences and send one invoice in euros, at €22 per Standard user or €110 per Premium user a month, plus €14 per user a month and €490 once for setup, all excluding VAT.
Anthropic runs the Claude Partner Network, launched in March 2026, with Select, Preferred and Global Premier tiers and a public directory in its Partner Hub. satori. is an independent firm of Claude consultants that sets up Claude for European teams at fixed, published prices in euros.
