Claude for nonprofits: discount and setup in EUR

A grant application is due on Friday morning, two volunteers called in sick and the coordinator is still rewriting the budget section at a quarter past six on Thursday evening. Claude for nonprofits exists for that evening, since Anthropic sells its Team plan to qualifying nonprofits for $8 per user per month, which is up to 75 per cent below the commercial price.¹²

The discount only helps if the organisation knows which tasks to hand over and how to keep beneficiary data safe while it does. This guide covers the tasks nonprofits usually start with, the price, who qualifies in Europe and the GDPR questions your board will ask.

What can a nonprofit use Claude for?

Nonprofits face the same paperwork as any company, with a fraction of the staff to carry it, which is why the first tasks are almost always writing tasks. A draft that takes a coordinator four hours from a blank page can drop to about one hour when Claude writes the first version from last year's annual report.

Grant applications: Every foundation, municipality and EU programme wants the same project described in its own format and word limit. Claude rewrites the core description into each funder's template, while a person still checks every figure against the budget, because Claude copies an old number as confidently as a new one.

Donor letters: Thank-you emails after a gift, reminders to lapsed donors and reports to long-term partners can each be personalised from one spreadsheet of gift size and history. Somebody still reads the first twenty letters, since a wrong first name costs more goodwill than no letter at all.

Translation across European languages: An organisation working in four EU countries can have a first draft of every leaflet in each language within minutes. A native speaker still proofreads each version before print, because tone in a sensitive letter is where machine translation slips first.

Survey analysis: A volunteer survey with 400 free-text answers takes a week to read by hand, while Claude groups the answers into themes and counts them in under an hour. The coordinator still reads a sample of twenty answers per theme to check that the grouping holds.

What does Claude for nonprofits cost?

Anthropic prices the nonprofit plans in US dollars, and the euro figures below are rough conversions at about 0.85 euros to the dollar.²³

The Team plan needs at least two seats, and larger organisations above 150 people go through Anthropic's sales team for Enterprise.² Anthropic's nonprofit offer includes the same models as the commercial plans, plus connectors for Benevity, Blackbaud and Candid, meaning links that let Claude read your donor and grant data where those tools are in use.¹

Who qualifies for Claude for nonprofits in Europe?

Anthropic accepts 501(c)(3) organisations and nonprofits with an equivalent international designation, which is the clause that matters for a European charity, foundation or registered association.¹ Schools from kindergarten to year twelve and some mission-based healthcare organisations qualify as well, while government agencies, political campaigns, universities and large healthcare systems do not.²

Verification runs through Goodstack, a partner that checks nonprofit status, and Anthropic states that the Team form takes two to three minutes.² Keep your registration number and founding documents open before you start, since Goodstack decides whether your national registration counts as equivalent, and neither Anthropic nor we can promise the answer in advance.

Is Claude safe for nonprofit data under GDPR?

Nonprofits handle some of the most sensitive personal data there is, from beneficiaries and donors to children and people in vulnerable situations. GDPR treats health data and several other categories as special category data, which may only be processed under the stricter conditions in Article 9.⁴

The Team and Enterprise plans run under Anthropic's commercial terms, where inputs and outputs are not used to train models by default.⁵ Anthropic's data processing addendum with standard contractual clauses, meaning the EU contract terms for sending personal data outside Europe, is built into those terms automatically.⁶ Data is stored in the US according to Anthropic's own privacy centre, even when traffic is routed through Europe.⁷

Write one rule into your volunteer handbook before anyone logs in, for example that names, health details and anything about a child stay out of Claude. The rule takes five minutes to write and saves the board meeting where somebody asks what was pasted in last spring.

The short version

Claude for nonprofits costs $8 per user per month on Team for organisations that pass the Goodstack check. Write the data rule first, start with grant applications, and let a person check every figure before it leaves the building.

Open the last three grant applications your organisation sent, paste the project description from one of them into Claude and write: "Rewrite this for a funder with a 300-word limit and list every figure you used." Compare the draft with what you wrote by hand, and within twenty minutes you have a measure of how many hours the next application could take.
