ChatGPT Business pricing 2026: per seat, in EUR

The finance lead who calls about ChatGPT Business pricing usually wants two answers, namely what a seat costs and what happens the day a heavy user hits the ceiling at two in the afternoon. The first answer is $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, while the Premium seat with five times the room costs $100 or $125.¹² The second answer sits in a help article, so it gets its own section further down.

What is ChatGPT Business, and what is it not?

ChatGPT Business is the OpenAI plan for workplaces, meaning a shared workspace where an admin decides who is in it and which apps members may connect. The plan was called ChatGPT Team until August 2025, when OpenAI changed the name and left features and prices untouched, so older guides that say Team describe the same plan.³

The difference from five private Plus subscriptions is not the model, because both reach the same GPT models, but who owns the account and what happens to the content. OpenAI states that content from its business plans is not used to train its models by default, and that sentence is usually what gets a purchase past the IT lead.⁴ The admin also sees who actually logs in, so an unused seat shows up in a list instead of hiding on somebody's private card.

What does ChatGPT Business pricing look like per seat?

OpenAI sells the business side in two seat types plus an Enterprise contract, and since the price differs five times between the seats, the seat choice is the biggest line in the whole budget.

ChatGPT Business Standard seat

The Standard seat costs $20 per user per month on annual billing and $25 month to month, and the workspace needs at least two paid seats to exist.² Single sign-on with your company account is part of the plan, which matters from about twenty users, since nobody wants a separate password list for the AI tool.⁵

ChatGPT Business Premium seat

The Premium seat arrived in August 2026 at $100 per user per month on annual billing or $125 monthly.¹ The name hides what it does, although the content is plain: five times the included usage of a Standard seat and no five-hour limit. That limit is the window that otherwise pauses a heavy user until five hours have passed.

The models are the same on both seat types, so the money buys room and not better answers. The seat types can be mixed in one workspace, which is what makes the sums reasonable, for example two Premium seats for the people who run agents all day and Standard for everyone else.

What happens when a seat runs out of room?

Each seat includes room for the heavy features, meaning agent runs and reasoning models, and once that room is used, further usage draws on shared workspace credits.⁶ The workspace owner buys those credits and sets a cap on how much may be drawn, which is the lever that stops one large task from eating the month's budget.

OpenAI publishes the credit cost per feature in its rate card for Business and Enterprise, counted in credits per million tokens, meaning the chunks of text the model reads or writes.⁷ Expect that line to move, because OpenAI adjusts the rate card as it adds features, so the owner should read it again every quarter.

ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team, seat by seat

The price picture is almost identical when you put the two plans side by side, and it is rarely the euros that decide where a European team ends up.

Seat price decides nothing here, while the place your files live decides a lot. A team whose material already sits in Google Drive and Slack gets further with ChatGPT Business, whereas a team whose documents sit in folders on a laptop gets further with Claude Cowork. Where does your data go, and what does GDPR ask of you?

ChatGPT Business now lets the workspace owner choose Europe, meaning the EEA plus Switzerland, as the region where customer content is stored at rest, although OpenAI says the option rolls out gradually and is not yet open to every workspace.⁹ Even with Europe selected, OpenAI keeps a copy of prompts and responses in the US for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, so a European company on Business should still write its own short transfer assessment before the first seat is bought. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu go one step further and add inference residency, meaning the model also runs in the region, for eligible customers.

In practice that means two rules before anyone pastes text into a chat. Personal data about customers and staff stays out until someone has read the data processing terms, and material from health care or public authority work needs a plan with European storage from the start. The same reasoning applies to Claude, where the European route runs through the EU cross-region inference profile on Amazon Bedrock, across regions such as Frankfurt and Stockholm.¹¹

What eight people cost in one year

Eight Standard seats cost $1,920 a year on annual billing, about €1,630, while eight Premium seats cost $9,600 for exactly the same names on the list. A mix is almost always the right answer, and six Standard plus two Premium lands at $3,840 a year, about €3,260, plus any credits you choose to top up with.

ChatGPT Business costs $20 per person per month on annual billing, and $100 for the 5x seat that lets someone run the agent all day without being paused. The price sits level with Claude Team, while data storage differs, and that difference decides which material you may put in.

Open last month's card statement, list every line that says OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, and write the total at the top. After twenty minutes you have a list of names and one sum, and that figure is the only one you cannot reconstruct later.
